Seeking God’s Will
Working in Children’s Ministry I create a lot of activities for the kids. After a while my brain melts to a puddle and I have no ideas left. This is the absolute perfect time to rely on the Lord and that’s when the best comes forward. The ideas are so good, I know it’s not me. It’s been on my heart to share one of these God inspired activities that we used for the 2nd and 3rd graders.
The lesson the kids were learning was about God’s will for them. I find that phrase to be so daunting. “God’s Will.” This life is a big thing to us, and it’s scary to think about letting God take all of it over. God really pressed it into my heart to show the children small ways that they can follow God, and not just in the big and grand ways.
We used 8 envelopes with different Bible Verses on the Outside. Then we put the the meaning behind those verses into the envelopes. The kids guessed what God wanted them to do, and then they looked in the envelope to see if they were right. Here are the verses that we used. See if you can discover the meanings.
Envelope 1: “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.” Proverbs 1:8
Envelope 2: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Envelope 3: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21
Envelope 4: “The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Proverbs 12:22
Envelope 5: “Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than human beings!’” Acts 5:29
Envelope 6: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34
Envelope 7: “He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.’” Mark 16:15
Envelope 8: “Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance” Proverbs 1:5
God’s will for our lives sometimes seems like it’s only for a bigger scale and that He only has big things for us to do. But, it’s so important to remember that God has a plan for us, even in the little things like how we act and speak. He has called us to be faithful to Him and to seek after Him with our whole hearts. How can you seek and obey God’s will for you? How can you be faithful to His calling in your life?
